Fire guts state police command

Several offices within the Sokoto State Police Command were destroyed by a fire that broke out early on Saturday morning.

The fire, which started around 5:00 am, ravaged parts of the administration block, including the offices of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, the Chaplain, and the Chief Imam of the Command.

The Command’s Spokesman, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the incident in a statement to the press, explaining that the inferno gutted the one-story administration block, causing significant damage.

“Some offices were razed down by the inferno which include: the office of the Assistant Commissioner, Administration; the confidential office and that of the Chief Imam of the Command,” Rufa’i said.

Other affected areas include the office of the Chief Superintendent, Administration. Though property was lost, Rufa’i reassured that no injuries or deaths occurred as a result of the fire.

He also clarified that there was no suspicion of foul play, as the affected section was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

“But investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the fire and the level of damage it caused,” he added.

The incident has raised concerns over the extent of the damage, with investigations set to provide further details on the exact cause and potential lapses in fire prevention measures within the Command.
