Floods cut off Maiduguri-Damboa highway

A flood resulting from a heavy downpour has completely cut the Maiduguri-Damboa highway into two parts near Dalwa village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, rendering the road inaccessible.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday, has left motorists searching for alternative routes to reach their destinations.

Speaking at the Scene, Hon. Ali Mohammed Kauji, the Chairman of Damboa Local Government Area, stressed the significance of this highway as a vital connection between Southern Borno and the state capital, Maiduguri.

He urged the state government to take immediate action in repairing the badly damaged highway to facilitate the smooth transportation of essential goods and services, highlighting that Damboa LGA plays a crucial role in supplying food commodities to the capital.

“Urgent intervention by the state government is necessary to prevent further damage to the highway and to alleviate the associated hardships for the people,” he appealed.

A devastating floodwater struck Maiduguri last week , killing more than 37 people and displacing over 200,000 persons who are currently housing in 36 camps within the Maiduguri Metropolis.
