FUDMA student admits to supplying arms to bandits
Ahmad Muhammad Kabir, an undergraduate student at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, has confessed to providing logistical support and supplying firearms to terrorist groups operating in the region.
Kabir, who is studying Geography and Regional Planning, was apprehended by authorities while attempting to deliver a large cache of ammunition to bandits in Dutsinma.
During an interrogation session captured on video, Kabir implicated a fellow student, Manir Musa, as a collaborator in his illicit firearms supply operation.
Kabir, who was taken into custody on Saturday at a Dutsinma township motor park in Katsina State, revealed to investigators that he had transported the ammunition from Nasarawa State, cleverly concealed within sacks of guinea corn to evade detection.
Born in Kaduna, Kabir confessed to being a key logistics supplier for terrorist organizations and astonishingly disclosed that he had relocated to Hayin Danmani in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State solely to pursue Western education at the Federal University Dutsinma.
When asked how he got involved with bandits, Kabir said, “Two weeks ago, a friend I met at school, Manir Musa, called to inform me to expect a call from someone, saying it would fetch me money. I agreed.
“I later received a call from the stranger and was asked to proceed to Nasarawa State to bring in ammunition for a fee.
“I traveled to Nasarawa State as planned, specifically to Lafia, the state capital, where a man asked me to meet him on the outskirts of the city. He handed me a sack containing guinea corn with ammunition concealed in it.
“Immediately after I collected the consignment, I headed for Abuja, where I boarded a Dutsinma-bound commercial vehicle.”
When asked whether he had personally met with bandits before, he replied, “No, we only communicate by phone.”
He added, “When I arrived from Nasarawa, I called to inform them that I had arrived with the bag. They asked for my location, and I told them. They sent someone on a motorcycle to pick it up.”
On July 9, 2024, journalists reported that the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, had accused some university staff members of aiding bandits.
Prof. Bichi, during an interview with newsmen in Katsina, alleged that some of the university’s staff members were serving as informants to the bandits.
“This issue of informants is worrisome, so we investigated those we suspect of giving out information about their colleagues and students,” Bichi said.
He continued, “We have identified them and handed over their contacts to one of the security agencies for further investigation.
“But we have not heard anything from the security agencies. These suspects are our staff members. We have strong reasons to believe they are informants to bandits.”
