Gunshots fired in Donald Trump’s vicinity at golf course

Former President Donald Trump was swiftly evacuated by the Secret Service on Sunday, September 15, 2024, after agents fired shots at a man suspected of being armed at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.

According to law enforcement sources, Secret Service agents spotted a suspicious individual near the golf course while Trump was playing. The agents opened fire after noticing what appeared to be the barrel of a gun. It is unclear whether the suspect was on the course itself or nearby when the incident occurred.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Trump, confirmed the former president’s safety, stating, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”

The man was arrested shortly after the incident on Interstate 95 by local police. Investigators have yet to determine his motive, and no further information about the suspect has been released.

This incident comes almost two months after an assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a man named Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump, wounding him in the ear during a rally in July.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a long-time ally of the former president, praised Trump’s resilience in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Just spoke with President Trump. He is one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. He’s in good spirits and more resolved than ever to save our country.”

The West Palm Beach golf course, located about five miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, which he calls the “Winter White House,” is a popular destination for the former president.

The Secret Service, which faced heavy criticism after the July assassination attempt, posted on X that they are investigating the “protective incident” in coordination with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Initial reports suggested there may have been more than one shooter, but authorities now believe that only the Secret Service agent discharged a weapon.

The investigation is still ongoing as authorities work to understand the suspect’s motives.
