Innoson unveils Nigeria’s first electric vehicle

Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) has announced the successful production and launch of Nigeria’s first electric vehicle, manufactured entirely at its state-of-the-art facility in Nnewi, Anambra State.

According to Cornel Osigwe, Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs at IVM, the company’s debut in electric vehicle production has generated significant excitement and interest.

Osigwe revealed that the initial batch of IVM electric cars has already sold out, with hundreds of inquiries and advance payments received from eager customers.

While details on pricing, production numbers, and commercial release timelines remain undisclosed, Osigwe emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “We are just getting started.”

As the world shifts towards eco-friendly transportation, electric vehicles play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions from road transport, which accounts for over 15 percent of global energy-related emissions, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The electric vehicle market has experienced remarkable growth, driven by advancements in range, model variety, and performance, with electric passenger cars now representing approximately 18 percent of new car sales as of 2023.

IVM’s pioneering achievement is poised to revolutionize Nigeria’s automotive landscape, setting a benchmark for innovation and sustainability.

As the company continues to push boundaries, its commitment to producing high-quality, eco-friendly vehicles is expected to drive growth and transform the industry.
