KACRAN commends Gov Buni, NEDC for lifesaving support in Maiduguri flood crisis
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has lauded the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and other key stakeholders for their decisive actions in responding to the recent catastrophic flood in Maiduguri.
The flood, which occurred due to an unexpected overflow of the Alau Dam, resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of properties worth billions of naira, and severe damage to critical infrastructure, including roads and bridges.
The scale of the disaster drew national and international attention, with urgent calls for intervention.
In a statement signed by KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, the association praised NEDC for its substantial humanitarian support, including a donation of ₦3 billion and large quantities of food supplies to assist those affected by the disaster.
The commission, under the leadership of Managing Director Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, also initiated the reconstruction of damaged bridges in Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Bauchi, and Adamawa states, as part of its broader efforts to restore the region’s infrastructure.

“NEDC’s commitment to rebuilding and developing the North East is commendable. Their efforts in the aftermath of the flood demonstrate their dedication to improving the lives of the region’s people,” said Bello. He also acknowledged the NEDC’s proactive measures to prevent future flooding by clearing drainage systems in major towns.
KACRAN extended special recognition to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his exceptional support, including leading a high-powered delegation to Maiduguri, providing financial aid and relief materials, and directing the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to participate in the rescue and relief operations.
“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that an entire state emergency agency has relocated to another state to support disaster relief efforts,” Bello noted, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of the intervention.
Further commendation was given to Professor Ahmad Ahijo, Chief Medical Director of UMTH, for his swift actions in evacuating patients and securing sensitive medical equipment during the flood, ensuring that no lives were lost within the hospital.
KACRAN concluded its statement by expressing deep sympathy for the people of Maiduguri, offering prayers for those who lost their lives and calling for continued national and international support to aid the city’s recovery.
