‘My husband has been ejected from the barracks’, released seaman’s wife cries out
Abbas Haruna, a seaman who was allegedly detained for almost six years on the orders of a senior Nigerian Navy officer, has been released.
His wife, Hussaina Iliya, had earlier made an emotional appeal on the popular Abuja-based radio show Brekete Family, accusing the military of unjustly holding her husband since 2018.
Iliya claims Brig. Gen. A.S. Adamu was behind Haruna’s detention and that he endured torture during his imprisonment. After her story went viral, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, called for an investigation into the matter.

Following the investigation, Abbas Haruna has regained his freedom but was discharged from the military and ejected from the barracks. Hussaina, expressing her unwavering love and support for her husband, said tearfully, “I will be with him no matter the situation. I love my husband.”
The couple’s ordeal continues as they face the challenges of rebuilding their lives after years of hardship.
