Story from Sa’adatu Maina, Damaturu

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has taken significant steps to assist communities in Yobe State affected by recent floods and insurgent attacks. On Friday, the Commission distributed essential food and non-food items to those impacted by these crises.

In a distribution event held in Damaturu, NEDC Managing Director Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by Prof Ali Ibrahim Abbas, the Yobe State Coordinator, detailed the Commission’s intervention.

Alkali noted that the NEDC had conducted on-site assessments in various affected areas, including Mafa in Tarmuwa LGA, which was targeted by Boko Haram, and several flood-hit communities such as Jumbam, Kariyari, Wagir, Nangere, and Nguru.

“The NEDC is working in close collaboration with Governor Mai Mala Buni and the Yobe State Government to ensure effective humanitarian and development interventions,” Alkali said.

He explained that the relief items distributed included essential food supplies and non-food items, aimed at alleviating the immediate needs of the victims.

Abbas emphasized that this relief effort is designed to complement the state government’s initiatives, addressing critical gaps in support for the communities affected by both floods and insurgent violence.

The NEDC’s actions reflect its ongoing commitment to supporting the North East region amidst these challenging circumstances.
