Organisers snub Messi, Ronaldo in 2024 Ballon d’Or nomination
The Ballon d’Or 2024 nominees were revealed on Wednesday by the organisers, France Football. This year’s shortlist of 30 players includes some surprising omissions.
Notably, for the first time since 2023, Lionel Messi and Ronaldo is featured among the nominees. Messi, who won the award for a record-extending eighth time last year, and Ronaldo, a five-time winner, are both absent.

Other notable absentees include Kevin De Bruyne, who secured his fourth consecutive Premier League title with Manchester City; Mohamed Salah of Liverpool; Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid; Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona; Julian Alvarez, who has played for Manchester City and Atletico Madrid; and Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool.
