PDP NWC infiltrated by APC members, made us lose Edo election – Dino Melaye
Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has raised concerns over the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing its National Working Committee (NWC) of being compromised by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His claims were made in response to the outcome of the recently concluded Edo State governorship election.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Melaye criticised the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, alleging that his leadership is leading the party towards destruction. The senator expressed his dismay over the election results, stating, “With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass. Edo experience will be a joke, there are more APC in the NWC than PDP.”

The PDP’s governorship candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, was defeated in Saturday’s election. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ighodalo secured 247,274 votes, while the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, won with 291,667 votes.
Melaye has consistently been vocal in his disapproval of Damagun’s leadership, previously accusing him of trying to ruin the once-dominant opposition party. He lamented that the PDP’s founding fathers, including Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, Sunday Awoniyi, Adamu Chiroma, Tony Anenih, and Abubakar Rimi, would be “turning in their graves” at the current state of the party under Damagun’s guidance.
