Shettima returns from UN General Assembly
Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.
In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, it was disclosed that during the assembly, Shettima called on global leaders to support reforms within the United Nations Security Council. He emphasized the importance of granting permanent seats to Nigeria and other African countries, stressing the necessity for the UN to evolve in order to maintain its relevance and credibility in an increasingly dynamic world.
Shettima noted, “The Security Council should be expanded in both permanent and non-permanent member categories to reflect the diversity and plurality of the world.” He also expressed optimism about the initial support shown by some permanent members of the Security Council towards this reform.

The vice president reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to multilateralism, underscoring that the United Nations embodies inclusiveness, which is founded on peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
