Shettima visits Niger IDP camp, assures victims of FG’s support

Vice President Kashim Shettima made a visit to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Gwada, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on Friday.

His arrival at the Ahmed Bola Tinubu International Airport in Minna at 11:45 am was marked by a warm reception from Niger State Governor Umaru Bago, his deputy Yakubu Garba, and other senior officials.

Shettima’s visit comes in response to the recent surge in banditry and severe flooding that has displaced thousands in the region.

At the camp, which now serves as a temporary refuge for many affected individuals, the Vice President expressed his solidarity and support.

He reassured both Governor Bago and the displaced persons that the Federal Government is committed to providing the necessary assistance.

In his address, Shettima emphasized the government’s focus not only on immediate relief but also on developing long-term strategies to prevent future disasters.

He highlighted the Federal Government’s dedication to easing the difficulties faced by those affected and delivering substantial relief.

Governor Bago thanked Shettima for his visit, noting that the presence of the Vice President provided much-needed encouragement.

According to the state government, the flooding, banditry, and communal conflicts have displaced approximately 46,853 individuals, including 17,540 children.
