State govt summons stakeholders to reduce impact of heavy rainfall, flooding

The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, summons key stakeholders to discuss strategies for reducing the effects of predicted heavy downpours and flooding, as forecasted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) on September 10, 2024.

During a press briefing held at the State Secretariat, Governor Radda, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Abdullahi Garba Faskari, underscores the need for proactive measures to avert the impending situation. He stresses the importance of public sensitisation to lessen the impact of the expected heavy rainfall.

The meeting gathers state commissioners from critical sectors, including Health, Environment, Agriculture, Water Resources, and Local Government Affairs, alongside chairmen from local governments such as Bakori, Bindawa, Daura, Funtua, and Katsina.

Faskari states, “We gather all relevant stakeholders to do the needful to avert any ugly situation that may arise due to the predicted heavy rainfall. Coming together underscores the importance of this matter.”

NiMET’s weather outlook predicts thunderstorms and rains across various states from Wednesday to Friday, including Katsina, with warnings about possible urban flooding.

The agency advises residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to a high likelihood of flooding in major cities, highlighting the critical nature of the discussions held by the state government.
