Tanker explosion in Niger claims 30 lives, kills 50 cows (Video)
A petrol tanker explosion in Niger State claims the lives of over 30 people and more than 50 cattle in the Agaie Local Government Area. The incident occurs around 12:30 am on Sunday, September 8, 2024, along the Lapai-Agaie road, approximately 2km from Dendo Community.
The explosion results from a head-on collision between the petrol tanker, which was loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and a trailer truck transporting travelers and cattle from Wudil in Kano State to Lagos. Additionally, two other vehicles—a crane truck and a pickup van—are caught in the blaze.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) reports that their Rapid Response Team, along with local Emergency Management Committees, is conducting search and rescue operations. They continue to recover bodies trapped in the wreckage. The explosion and ensuing fire cause significant destruction, with numerous vehicles and livestock involved.
