Terrorists enslaving us to work on their farms – Niger residents
Residents of Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) in Niger State have reported a dire situation where terrorists and bandits are forcing locals to work on their farms.
These reports come amid growing concern over the security situation in the region, exacerbated by the recent withdrawal of military forces.
At an emergency media conference in Minna, Saidu Salihu, Secretary of the Coalition of Shiroro Associations, highlighted the severe impact of the security crisis.
He revealed that terrorists, who have taken control of Allawa and surrounding communities, are not only committing violent acts but also exploiting local populations.
They have seized agricultural produce, including over 20 bags of soybeans, from farms in the area.

Salihu called for the immediate return of military personnel to the region to restore safety and allow displaced residents to resume farming.
He also urged the Niger State government to enhance its cooperation with security agencies and provide support to local vigilantes.
The situation is further complicated by the presence of various terrorist groups, including Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Ansaru.
Abdullah Suleiman Erena warned that these groups are creating a dangerous stronghold in the Lakpma axis, which could pose a significant threat to the Federal Capital Territory if not addressed urgently.
Criticism has been directed at both state and federal governments for their perceived inaction.
Sani Abubakar Yusuf Kokki expressed frustration over the government’s lack of effective measures and called for more proactive steps to tackle the security challenges and support displaced communities.
