Troops intercept vehicle with AK-47 rifle, arrest car owner as driver escapes

The Nigerian Army 6 Brigade in Jalingo, Taraba State, has intercepted a suspected vehicle with an AK-47 rifle hidden inside.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle immediately ran off to a nearby bush after the weapon was discovered to avoid arrest.
Following a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering, troops tracked down and arrested one Malam Abubakar Adamu, the owner of the abandoned vehicle.
The vehicle, a blue Toyota Yaris with Registration Number Taraba KLD 652 XA, has been seized by the security operatives.
Speaking on the incident, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, in a statement released on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 said, “Malam Abubakar Adamu, the owner of the abandoned vehicle and a suspect in the criminal activities in the area, during interrogation, confessed to having sent the driver who is still at large to convey the weapon from Doruwa village to Wukari in Wukari LGA of Taraba State.

“Malam Abubakar was arrested in Mutum Biyu with two mobile phones alongside the union driver Malam Isah Ibrahim who is also an accomplice.”
The Commander, 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their dedication and resilience.
“This arrest is a testament to our commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State and its environs,” he said.
Other incriminating items hidden in the vehicle compartment were also confiscated for further investigation.
