Troops kill notorious bandit leader, Halilu Sububu in Zamfara ambush

Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji have successfully neutralised Halilu Sububu, a wanted bandit leader, in an ambush in Kwaren Kirya, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Sububu, originally from Niger Republic but operating primarily in Nigeria, was a notorious figure known for his involvement in gunrunning and illegal gold mining.

The ambush, which occurred yesterday, resulted in Sububu’s death alongside 50 of his fighters.

The bandit leader had been on the run since May when he was declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters. His operations included controlling illegal mining activities in Bagega and Sumke forest areas.

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, praised the troops for their successful operation and underscored the ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the North West.

He warned that other bandit leaders, including Bello Turji, are also targets as security forces intensify their operations.

In response to the increasing insecurity, a new military operation named ‘Operation Fansar Yamma Northwest’ will be launched to address the regional threats more effectively.
