Zamfara: 6 family members crushed to death
Six members of the same family—a couple and their four children—have been confirmed dead in Gusau, Zamfara State, after being struck by a tipper truck.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Zamfara State Command, SP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that all six individuals lost their lives.
The police spokesperson stated that the deceased included four children, a husband, and a wife.
“I cannot confirm the genders of the children, but there were four of them. We have apprehended the driver, and the investigation is ongoing.”
“As soon as we complete our investigation, we will make our findings public, but for now, I can only confirm the incident and the number of people who died.”
Reporters learned that the tipper driver lost control and collided with an oncoming motorcycle rider who was traveling with his family.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that all the victims died on the spot after being struck by the tipper.
“It was a tragic scene. Seeing an entire family killed in such a situation is heartbreaking. I couldn’t hold back my tears when I saw the lifeless bodies of the man, his wife, and their four children.”
He suspected that the tipper’s brakes were faulty, noting, “If the brakes were in good condition, the driver would have been able to stop the vehicle before hitting the motorcycle rider.”
“You know that many tippers operating around here don’t have properly functioning brakes.”
