16-year-old boy kills stepmother

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 16-year-old Nuhu Haruna from Dutsinma Local Government Area for allegedly killing his stepmother, Rabi Haruna, aged 40, during a violent altercation. Alongside him, other suspects involved in kidnapping and homicide cases across the state were also apprehended.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Abubakar Sadiq announced the arrest at a press conference on Wednesday, detailing the incident that took place on October 21, 2024, at around 1:00 p.m. According to ASP Sadiq, Haruna struck his stepmother with a stick in the stomach during a misunderstanding, leading to her tragic death.

In a separate case, authorities also detained Abubakar Nasiru, known as Haro, from Daura Local Government Area on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

ASP Sadiq revealed that Abubakar Nasiru, who has a prior conviction for rape, was linked to a kidnapping incident currently under investigation.

“Nasiru conspired with accomplices, who are still at large, in 2023 to storm Unguwar Maza village in Kafur LGA and kidnap three individuals. A ransom of N13 million was paid for their release, with Nasiru admitting to receiving N2 million as his share,” Sadiq explained.

The police have stepped up efforts to apprehend the accomplices of Abubakar Nasiru, who remain at large.

In a related operation, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Ibrahim Isah from Yana village in Charanchi LGA for allegedly contacting the father of a missing man, Bello Sani, and demanding a ransom of N1 million for his release. Acting on a tip-off, police traced and apprehended the suspect, according to ASP Sadiq.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Gombe State Police Command, Katsina police arrested 25-year-old Nasiru Sanusi from Gidan Daudu village in Kankara LGA. He is accused of conspiring with three accomplices to kidnap his uncle, a local ward head. After receiving N8 million and six bags of fertilizer as ransom, the gang allegedly killed the victim.

Sadiq noted that Sanusi fled to Lagos, Taraba, and eventually Gombe, where he continued his criminal activities until his arrest.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices. The command is committed to pursuing all fleeing suspects to ensure justice is served,” he added.
