Canadian woman sentenced for drug trafficking in Nigeria
A Canadian woman has received an unfavorable court sentence after being arraigned for drug trafficking.
The 41-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, was paraded alongside other criminals by the NDLEA for her role in importing illicit drugs into the country.
Munju, arrested at Terminal 1 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, on October 3, 2024, was found to have imported 74 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 35.20 kilograms into Nigeria.
During her arraignment before Justice Dehinde Dipeolu, she admitted to being contracted for the operation via an online platform and was promised 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery in Lagos.
Justice Dipeolu convicted Munju after she pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her by the NDLEA. The judge sentenced her to six years in prison on the first count and five years on the second. However, she was given the option to pay a fine of N50 million for each count, totaling N100 million.
