Court blocks CBN from disbursing funds to Rivers govt

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to cease all monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.

The judge ruled that the receipt and disbursement of these allocations by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara since January constituted a breach of the Constitution and must not be permitted to continue.

She further stated that the presentation of the 2024 budget by Fubara to a four-member Rivers House of Assembly violated constitutional provisions.

Justice Abdulmalik stated that the governor’s actions constituted a gross violation of the 1999 Constitution.

The judge subsequently prohibited the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank from allowing Governor Fubara to access funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
