Customs launches B’Odogwu system to enhance trade efficiency
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially launched B’Odogwu, a Unified Customs Management System designed to modernise and streamline trade operations across the country. The pilot phase was unveiled on Wednesday, 23 October 2024, at the Port & Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) in Lagos.
Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, hailed the platform as a significant step forward in the NCS’s modernization efforts, aligning with global standards.
“B’Odogwu represents our vision for a paperless customs administration that facilitates seamless trade while maintaining robust security measures,” said Adeniyi. He further explained that the new system will eventually replace the existing Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS II) and will integrate with the upcoming National Single Window, which is set to enhance trade transparency and efficiency across Nigeria.
Adeniyi emphasized that the initiative is grounded in the legal provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, particularly sections 28 and 29, which empower the NCS to develop and implement electronic systems that promote transparency and engage stakeholders.

He encouraged stakeholders to welcome the transition with optimism, emphasizing the importance of constructive feedback to improve the system. “Your input is crucial to the success of this initiative,” he noted, calling for collaborative efforts as the pilot phase unfolds.
The CGC also highlighted B’Odogwu’s ability to streamline business processes, offer customized integration for stakeholders, and enhance decision-making for more efficient trade operations. He expressed appreciation to terminal operators, customs agents, and the Trade Modernisation Project team for their unwavering support in bringing the project to life.
The development and implementation of B’Odogwu is the result of a collaborative effort between the NCS and the Trade Modernisation Project team. Adeniyi urged customs officers at the PTML command to take the associated training seriously, as they would be setting the pace for the system’s eventual rollout across the country.
