Davido’s father claims to generate 15% of Nigeria’s electricity

Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, a billionaire businessman and father of music star David Adeleke, known as Davido, claims he is responsible for generating 15 percent of Nigeria’s electricity supply.

He made this statement during the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council in Maryland, United States, on Tuesday.

The billionaire businessman announced plans to expand his $2 billion investment in the power sector by constructing a 1,250-megawatt power plant.

He stated that the project will be the largest power plant in Nigeria upon its completion in January 2025.

He remarked, “I am a businessman in Nigeria and operate in the electricity sector. I currently generate about 15 percent of Nigeria’s electricity needs through my power plants.

“I work with Chinese engineering firms and am nearly finished with my tenth power plant, which will be the biggest thermal power plant in Nigeria. This 1,250-megawatt facility is set to become operational in January.”

Adeleke also revealed that an unnamed government official had threatened to obstruct the project, saying, “While designing and obtaining the permit, we faced challenges with difficult government officials. Our permit was denied for environmental reasons, and one official bluntly told me that my project would never move forward.

“While he spoke, I thought to myself that he was acting as if he were God. I reminded myself that he is not God, and whatever he says holds no weight.”

He then shared how he ultimately secured the permit after the official fell ill and was taken abroad for treatment.
