Detained Binance Executive, Gambaryan absent from court due to ill health

The trial of Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of Binance Holdings Limited, has been postponed due to his absence from court.

Gambaryan, who is facing charges of alleged money laundering alongside Binance Ltd, could not appear in court on October 18, 2024, as scheduled, due to health issues.

An officer from the Correctional Center, responsible for bringing the defendant to court, informed the judge that Gambaryan was “very sick,” as confirmed by his superior. This prevented him from being present at the proceedings.

Justice Emeka Nwite, who had initially set the trial date for October 18, following a previous hearing on October 11, expressed surprise at Gambaryan’s absence. Both the prosecution and defense counsel also indicated that they were unaware of his health condition prior to the hearing.

Gambaryan’s legal representative requested the court for an adjournment, citing the need to report on the executive’s health status.

In response, Justice Nwite adjourned the case until October 25, 2024, to receive an update on Gambaryan’s health and determine the next steps in the trial.
