Father faces execution for beating 6-week-old twin daughters to death
Fernando Vega has been charged with capital murder following the tragic deaths of his twin newborn daughters, Massail and Mirena, who were found unresponsive in their home in Houston on October 4, 2023.
If convicted, Vega could face the death penalty, according to reports from Daily Mail UK.
Initially arrested on April 19, Vega faced charges alongside the twins’ mother, 21-year-old Angelina Belinda Calderon, for causing serious bodily injury to a child.
However, after a thorough investigation, authorities upgraded his charges to two counts of capital murder, concluding that he was allegedly the sole perpetrator responsible for the infants’ deaths.
On that fateful morning, police discovered the six-week-old twins unresponsive on a couch in their residence on Linden Creek Way. Upon arrival, officers noted that the infants displayed discolored skin and bruises across their bodies, with one of the girls having visible fractures.

Court documents revealed alarming details about the twins’ condition; they had been discharged from the hospital without receiving adequate medical care and were found to be malnourished. Dr. Jesus Rico, a pathologist at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science, conducted an examination and identified signs of dehydration, bruises, and fractures indicative of prior abuse.
Additionally, one of the twins exhibited acute brain bleeding and spinal cord injuries, suggesting recent trauma.
During a court hearing on Wednesday, prosecutor Edward Appelbaum emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the twins’ deaths before finalizing any murder charges against Vega.
The case remains under investigation as Vega awaits trial, leaving the community in shock over the heartbreaking loss of the two innocent lives.
