Fire guts Ministry of Works HQ
A fire incident occurred on Friday at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja, causing panic among employees.
The fire was reportedly triggered by a spark from a faulty circuit breaker located on the ground floor shortly after staff resumed work for the day.
According to Mohammed A. Ahmed, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, the situation was quickly contained with minimal damage.
He stated, “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry. The incident was a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.”

Mr. Kekai Bekebi, the Station Commander of the Federal Fire Service at the Ministry, confirmed that his team responded promptly, effectively controlling the fire using available fire extinguishers. An evacuation of staff was successfully conducted without any injuries or casualties reported.
Aliyu Abdullahi, the Director of Human Resource Management, commended the staff for their conduct during the incident and reassured that no important documents were lost.
Following the incident, normal activities have resumed at the Ministry, with maintenance personnel cleaning up the area and restoring order.
