Former world’s strongest man passes away at 75
Geoff Capes, former shot putter and three-time World’s Strongest Man, has died at the age of 75, according to family reports.
Geoff Capes, a renowned British shot putter, holds the record for the longest throw of 21.68 meters, set in 1980. He was also crowned World’s Strongest Man twice, first in 1983 and again in 1985.
In a statement, Capes’ family announced his passing on October 23, expressing their sorrow:
“The family of Geoffrey Capes would like to announce his sad passing today. Britain’s finest shot putter and twice World’s Strongest Man.”
British Athletics also reacted to the news on X, stating:
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of former British shot putter Geoff Capes. Our condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
