Gombe to begin ₦70,000 minimum wage payment October

The Gombe State Government has announced its decision to implement the new ₦70,000 minimum wage starting in October 2024.

Deputy Governor Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau, who is also the Chairman of the Negotiation Committee, shared this update during a press briefing after a meeting with labor union representatives in the state.

Dr. Jatau explained that the state government is prepared to begin the wage increase in October and has set up a technical committee to finalize the implementation process within 72 hours.

Following the committee’s report, the negotiation team will meet again to work out the specific payment details and ensure smooth disbursement.

He urged any civil servants who do not see the new minimum wage reflected in their October paychecks to reach out to him directly, indicating the government’s commitment to transparency in the implementation process.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman for Gombe State, Comrade Yusuf Aish Bello, expressed appreciation for the state government’s prompt action.

He emphasized that the NLC would collaborate with the technical committee to ensure the wage increase is implemented effectively within the specified timeframe.

Bello also commended Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for honoring the agreement reached between the NLC and the federal government regarding the wage increase, underscoring the governor’s dedication to the welfare of Gombe State workers.
