Gov. Buni approves handover of Nazari/Jakusko grazing reserve to leaders of Fulani herdsmen
Yobe State Governor, Honourable Mai Mala Buni, CON, has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to handover all the facilities of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre in Jakusko local government to Lamidos, Jauros and Ardos of host communities.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Aishatu Tijjani, Chief Information Officer M.A.N.R.
Governor Buni, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, mni, gave the directive during an inspection visit of the reserve.

The governor stated that the handing over became necessary as the multi-billion naira project is ready for occupation and usage.
He said his administration, in collaboration with the federal government, have invested billions of naira in the construction of the reserve which is the second-largest livestock development centre in sub-Saharan Africa.
Governor Buni reassured the readiness of the government towards supporting the grazing reserve for socio-economic growth and development of livestock production in the state.
The governor noted that the Nazari/Jakusko grazing reserve, which has a capacity of over eighty thousand hectares of land with different structures, was put in places for herders as part of dividend of democracy in addition to promoting peace, especially between farmers and herders in Yobe State.
According to him, the construction of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre is a deliberate policy by his administration to settle headers in one place to concentrate on their grazing business and to enrol their children to school.
Conducting the delegation round the project, the Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Honourable Ali Mustapha Goniri, said the projects have been completed and ready for commissioning.
He said the project will no doubt enhance livestock production in the state, especially since Yobe is the major producer of livestock in the country.
The commissioner further stated that the project is ready for handover to the host communities for value on the money spent.
Malam Goniri used the forum and appealed to the headers to take ownership of the project for the benefit of generation yet unborn.
A Fulani community leader, Hassan Lamido Sarkin Fulani, commended the efforts of the state government under the leadership of Governor Buni for the construction of the reserve, describing it as a project that will improve livestock production and reduce farmer/header clashes in the area and the state in general.
The facilities inspected include milk collection centre, human and animal health facilities, primary school for normads’ children, feed mill centre, and small ruminants multiplication two bedrooms settlement centres.
Others are artificial insemination centres, breed improvement centres, warehouses, and aqua-culture pounds, among others.
