Gov Inuwa constitutes negotiation team to address Gombe varsity unions’ demands
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has established a high-level committee to negotiate with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) at Gombe State University (GSU).
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, announced that the team, chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, includes key government officials tasked with addressing the unions’ demands and resolving the ongoing strike through dialogue to restore academic stability at the university.
Committee members include commissioners for Local Government and Community Development, Finance and Economic Development, Education, Higher Education, Budget and Economic Planning, along with other high-ranking officials such as the state’s Auditor-General and Accountant-General.

The Permanent Secretary for Special Services and Political Affairs will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The terms of reference include addressing key issues outlined in the 2021 Memorandum of Action (MoA), such as increased funding for GSU, payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), and the establishment of a training fund for staff pursuing higher degrees.
Additionally, unresolved issues like the adjustment of the N30,000 minimum wage, wage awards, DTA allowances, and the release of the 2023 Visitation Panel White Paper are also on the table.
