Governor Fubara declares ‘Rivers State is mine Now’ in response to Wike
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to relinquish any desire for control over Rivers State, asserting that the state is now his and urging for peace to prevail in the oil-rich region.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, Fubara expressed no regrets about holding local government elections last Saturday, despite opposition from Wike’s allies in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I have the courage to make these decisions,” the governor stated, urging Wike to let go of any perceived influence he still holds over the South-South state.
When asked what he would say to Wike if they met, Fubara responded, “I would tell him it’s time to let go. We need peace in this state.
“You don’t have to win every battle; sometimes it’s better to step back for the sake of the good people of Rivers State and the love you’ve always professed for the state. Our priority should be securing the state.”
“Fubara will leave tomorrow. Who knows who is going come but today the state is mine. It might be through Wike or through another person but we need to secure the state.”
