Governor Lawal appoints Bala Gusau as new chairman of ZASIEC

Governor Dauda Lawal has appointed Bala Gusau as the new chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC), pending confirmation by the Zamfara State House of Assembly. This appointment comes after the death of the former chairman.

The announcement was made in a statement from Suleman Tudu, the Senior Special Assistant (Media) in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

According to the statement, the governor exercised his authority under the relevant provisions of Zamfara State Electoral Laws to make this appointment.

Bala Gusau holds two postgraduate certificates in leadership and development from Galilee College in Israel and Kansas State University in the USA, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Economics) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

Gusau has a distinguished career in public service, spanning over three decades. He has held various positions, including Director in the Zamfara State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and has also worked in different capacities at the National Television Authority, including Zonal Director for Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara. He was previously a permanent member of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board.

Governor Lawal expressed confidence that Gusau’s extensive experience will help drive the vision of ZASIEC to ensure free, fair, and credible local government elections in the state.

Following a recent Supreme Court decision granting autonomy to local governments, Zamfara, along with other states, is expected to conduct local government elections in the coming months.
