Imo traditional ruler, others rescued as security operatives raid IPOB camp
The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has successfully raided a notorious camp operated by the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Ezioha Forest, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
During the operation, several kidnapping victims were rescued, including a 69-year-old traditional ruler from Umuorji Mgbidi community in Oru West Local Government Area. The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.
According to Okoye, the raid resulted in a heavy gunfight between the security operatives and the camp’s inhabitants, leading to the neutralisation of the kidnap kingpin who had been terrorising the state. Other members of the group fled with bullet wounds.
Several kidnap victims, including a couple, were also freed during the raid. Items recovered from the camp include various vehicles, a pump-action gun, live cartridges, locally-made explosives, a Biafra flag, and native bulletproof vests.
