IPOB/ISWAP kill scores near Anambra governor’s lodge
A tragic shooting during the Onwa Asaa festival in Nibo, Anambra, has left numerous residents dead and many others injured. Members of the IPOB/ISWAP group, arriving in a black Lexus SUV, opened fire on people gathered at an eatery near the Anambra Governor’s Lodge on Sunday, October 20.
Eyewitnesses reported chaos as attendees celebrated the festival, which is meant to promote joy and unity. “It was like a war zone,” one witness recounted, describing how people screamed and fled the scene in panic. Preliminary reports indicate that at least a dozen fatalities have been confirmed, with concerns that the death toll may rise as investigations continue.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but local authorities have called for a thorough investigation. In response, the state police described the incident as a suspected cult-related clash and have deployed additional operatives to the area to assist with the investigation. Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga urged witnesses to come forward with information to help identify the perpetrators.
Community leaders expressed their devastation over the attack, urging the government to take swift action to ensure the safety of residents. “We cannot continue to live in fear. We need peace and security,” one community leader stated.
