Israel ‘preparing response’ to Iran attack – Military Official
An Israeli military official has confirmed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are “preparing a response” to the missile barrage launched by Iran earlier this week. This announcement follows a significant escalation in tensions, as Iran targeted Israel with around 200 missiles on October 1, marking its second direct attack on the country in less than six months.
The military official, who spoke to AFP on the condition of anonymity, described the Iranian attack as “unprecedented and unlawful,” stating that it was aimed at Israeli civilians. However, the official did not provide specific details regarding the nature or timing of Israel’s intended response.
According to reports from Israel’s left-leaning newspaper Haaretz, the military is planning a “significant” strike in Iran as retaliation for the missile attack. The IDF has also expressed concerns about the potential for further Iranian missile strikes against Israeli territory following any Israeli counterattack.

Despite the scale of the missile assault, Israel’s aerial defense system intercepted most of the projectiles, although some managed to strike military bases, causing no major damage or casualties.
The Iranian missile strike was reportedly in retaliation for the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, the chief of Lebanese Hezbollah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on September 27. Additionally, Iran claimed the attack was a response to the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the former political head of Hamas, who died in Tehran on July 31. Both Iran and Hamas have attributed his killing to Israel, though Israel has not officially commented on Haniyeh’s death.
