Israel rejects UN report alleging war crimes, human rights violations

Israel has strongly condemned a UN probe that accuses the country of intentionally targeting Gaza’s healthcare system and committing human rights abuses against Palestinian detainees.

The report, published by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry (CoI), claims Israel’s actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, sparking fierce rejection from Israeli officials.

The CoI’s findings suggest that Israel has engaged in systematic attacks on medical facilities and personnel within Gaza as part of a deliberate strategy.

Israel’s mission in Geneva responded by calling the report “outrageous” and asserted that the commission’s conclusions are biased, aiming to undermine Israel’s right to self-defense and to obscure the activities of terrorist groups within Gaza.

In addition to the healthcare allegations, the report accuses Israel of widespread abuse of Palestinian detainees.

Israel denied these claims, emphasizing its adherence to international legal standards regarding the treatment of detainees, including prohibitions on excessive force.

Israeli officials argue that the commission’s report creates a “false narrative” that exacerbates tensions and damages the credibility of the UN Human Rights Council.

The UN’s three-person commission, established in 2021 to investigate violations of international law in Israel and the Palestinian territories, issued this report amid ongoing hostilities.

Following a deadly attack by Hamas on October 7 last year, Israel launched an offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in significant casualties and widespread destruction.
