Man sentenced to 8 years for ₦62m land fraud
Justice Ismail Ijelu of an Ikeja High Court has sentenced a man, Abodurin Gerald Abozo to eight years imprisonment for land fraud.
Reports indicate that the defendant collected ₦62 million with the intention of selling a piece of land to a foreign investor but failed to follow through or refund the money.
Abozo appeared before Justice I.O. Ijelu at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on October 2, 2024. He faced two charges: obtaining money under false pretenses and theft.

The charges detail that Abozo, operating under the name S.G.B. & A Property Lines Company, deceived Engineer Samuel Segher in 2013 into paying ₦62 million for two plots of land in Chevy Estate, despite having no intention to sell the properties.
The second charge stated that Abozo unlawfully used the funds belonging to Segher.
Despite pleading not guilty to the accusations, Abozo was unable to refute the evidence presented by the prosecuting counsel, M.S. Owede, who provided two witnesses and various documents, all of which were accepted by the court.
