Oil workers resort to prayer for Nigeria’s oil, gas sector
As Nigerians grapple with economic hardship stemming from rising petrol prices, oil workers and corporations under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources have convened a prayer session to seek divine assistance amidst ongoing challenges.
Under the banner of the Petroleum Industry Christian Fellowship International (PICFI), the workers gathered for a National Prayer Conference in Port Harcourt, asserting that while they strive to uphold integrity in the oil and gas sector, the country urgently requires spiritual intervention.
Speaking to journalists during the three-day prayer session, Shola Idowu, the National President of PICFI, explained that the interdenominational organization consists of Christians from both international and local oil and gas industries, alongside corporations operating under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
Idowu stated, “Every year, we hold an annual prayer conference, and this year we have gathered in Port Harcourt for the 20th annual prayer conference. We come together to pray, seek the face of God, and intercede for the industry and Nigeria for its betterment.”

He emphasized the concern surrounding the economic challenges facing Nigeria, stating, “We know a lot of politics are involved, but what we are doing is to pray for the country, for the industry, and also to be doing what is right at work. With our prayers and integrity, we can make a difference.”
Idowu appealed to the federal government and leaders in the oil and gas sector to act righteously in order to prevent the country from collapsing, urging them to heed the call for change.
Additionally, Rev. Collins Edebiri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of PICFI, stressed that eliminating corruption in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry is essential for the nation’s prosperity.
He noted, “Corruption remains our biggest problem, but if we can all unite in righteousness and abandon the vices destroying our nation, Nigeria has a significant chance for recovery.”
Edebiri also encouraged citizens to maintain hope and collaborate with the government to improve the country’s situation.
