Police arrest 29-year-old suspected rapist, serial killer

A 29-year-old suspected kidnapper, rapist, and serial killer, identified as Ogunnaike Phillips, has been arrested by operatives of the police command.

Phillips, a member of the Aye confraternity, was apprehended in connection to the death of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya, who was raped and murdered in September. The deceased was found with machete wounds at her father’s farm, located near a local television station.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, disclosed that Phillips, a native of Ayepe Ijebu residing in the area, admitted to killing three other young girls in a similar manner and burying their remains in remote areas. On Friday, the suspect led police to three locations where he had buried his victims: Asero estate, Itori in Ewekoro, and Mile 6 along Ajebo road.

Other victims identified include Abigail Dina (22) and Mary Ogunyemi (23). According to the police, Phillips, along with his accomplice Danjuma (still at large), would lure their victims to isolated areas, steal their phones, demand ransom from their families, and then kill them.

When speaking to the media, Phillips expressed regret for his actions and demanded the death penalty. He claimed that his accomplice and fellow cult members led him into committing these crimes.

“I don’t want the government to do anything for me. If they catch us, they should just kill us. Danjuma and the cult members are the ones who led me to this,” he said.

The police commissioner expressed concern over the rising number of missing persons and youth involvement in crime, assuring that an investigation was underway to apprehend the remaining gang members. Alamutu also pledged to ensure the suspect faces justice, as the victims’ families demand accountability for the loss of their loved ones.
