Police arrest teenager for kidnapping neighbour’s son
The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended 18-year-old Abba Aliyu, the main suspect in a kidnapping case involving his neighbour’s two-year-old son. The shocking incident unfolded in the Badon Hanya area of Sokoto State, as detailed in a statement by ASP Ahmed Rufai, the command’s spokesman.
The case came to light when Ibrahim Shehu reported his son, Saidu Ibrahim, missing on October 16, 2024, after the child disappeared on October 13. “Despite efforts to locate him, his whereabouts remained unknown until the abductor demanded a ransom of N2 million for his release,” the statement revealed.
After negotiations, the family managed to pay a sum of five hundred thousand naira before the child was returned safely. Acting swiftly, police detectives conducted intelligence-led operations that led to Aliyu’s arrest at a location behind Zamson filling station in Badon Hanya.
During the investigation, Aliyu confessed to kidnapping Saidu in a bid to extort money from his parents. A Tecno android mobile phone used to demand the ransom was recovered from the suspect.
Sokoto State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the efforts of the police personnel involved in the operation. He emphasized the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring community safety.
In light of the incident, CP Musa urged parents to educate their children on safety protocols. “Teach them to identify trusted adults, report suspicious activities, and avoid walking alone. Encourage the use of the buddy system and ensure they stay in well-lit areas,” he advised. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining open communication with children about potential dangers and encouraging them to report any suspicious individuals or activities.
