Police arrest woman who broke stepson’s bone with pestle
The Enugu State Government has taken swift action regarding the alleged assault of a young boy by his stepmother, Mrs. Ada Ogbogu. Authorities reported that Mrs. Ogbogu allegedly struck her three-year-old stepson with a pestle, breaking his thigh bone. The tragic incident has sparked widespread condemnation and concern for the welfare of children across the state.
The Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, announced the arrest on Saturday. She revealed that Mrs. Ogbogu, a resident of Sunrise Estate in Emene, Enugu metropolis, was apprehended on Friday and is now in police custody.
Mrs. Enih, who was instrumental in coordinating the arrest, explained, “Once we were tipped off through one of our whistleblower channels on Friday, I quickly contacted the police, and we mobilized to the location. When we did not find the suspect at her residence, we proceeded to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu, where the boy is being treated. There, we effected her arrest with the hospital management’s assistance.”
The commissioner further expressed her dismay at the incident, stating, “It is heart-wrenching how wickedly some people treat other people’s children and sometimes even their own. But in Enugu State, we have zero tolerance for such excesses. Governor Peter Mbah has declared that no child should suffer abuse in Enugu State under his watch. This administration has consistently made examples of culprits, and this case will be no different.”

She added that the wife of the governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, is closely involved in the case, stating, “Her Excellency has been intensively following this matter. She has promised not only to ensure that justice is done but also to provide support for the little boy’s medical treatment and recovery.”
In response to the tragedy, the government emphasized its commitment to protecting children and ensuring strict measures against child abuse. Mrs. Enih assured the public that Enugu State would continue to uphold and enforce policies that safeguard children’s well-being, making it clear that any form of child mistreatment would face serious consequences.
The child, whose thigh bone was broken, remains hospitalized, receiving care from a team of doctors who are working to ensure his recovery. The state government has pledged to support his medical needs and see to it that he receives the necessary treatment to regain full health.
