Popular actor from ‘Coming to America’ dies at 84

John Amos, the actor who played the role of Cleo McDowell in the 1988 comedy classic “Coming to America“, has passed away at the age of 84.

John Amos’ son, K.C. Amos, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that his father died of natural causes in Los Angeles.

In addition to his role in “Coming to America“, he was a talented actor who appeared in numerous other films and television shows.

He was best known for his roles as James Evans Sr. in the hit sitcom “Good Times” and adult Kunta Kinte in the iconic miniseries “Roots.”

K.C Amos said, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.

“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father.

“He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
