Russia warns Israel against attacking Iranian nuclear facilities
Russia has issued a stern warning to Israel against any consideration of attacking Iranian nuclear facilities, as reported by state news agency TASS.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov emphasised this message on Thursday, amid rising tensions following Iran’s missile strike on Israel on October 1.
Speculation about Israel potentially targeting Iran’s nuclear sites has resurfaced, fueled by the country’s longstanding threats.

“We have repeatedly warned and continue to warn (Israel) against even hypothetically considering a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities and infrastructure,” Ryabkov was quoted as saying.
He added that such a move would lead to catastrophic consequences and undermine existing nuclear safety principles.
The specifics of how Russia communicated this warning to Israel remain unclear. Israel, along with Western nations, has long harbored concerns that Iran may be pursuing the development of nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program, a claim that Tehran denies.
In a statement on Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office indicated that while Israel would heed the United States’ advice against attacking Iran’s nuclear sites, it would ultimately act in accordance with its own national interests.
This statement was made in connection with a Washington Post article suggesting that Netanyahu informed the Biden administration of Israel’s intent to target Iranian military installations, rather than nuclear or oil facilities.
Ryabkov further noted that Russia maintains regular communication with Iran, regardless of the regional tensions. Since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, Russia has strengthened its relationship with Iran and is preparing to finalise a significant partnership agreement with the country.
