Spurs destroy West Ham in 8-minutes blitz
Tottenham Hotspur bounced back emphatically to defeat West Ham United 4-1 on Saturday, showcasing a remarkable eight-minute scoring spree in the second half that turned the match on its head at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The victory comes on the heels of a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Brighton in their previous league match, where Spurs squandered a two-goal lead.
The first half ended in a 1-1 stalemate, with West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus striking first against the run of play, only for Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski to equalize before the break. However, the second half belonged entirely to Spurs, beginning with Yves Bissouma’s goal, followed by an own goal from West Ham’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, and capped off by a strike from Son Heung-min.
With this win, Tottenham secured their third victory in four Premier League matches, climbing to sixth place in the league standings. Meanwhile, the pressure mounts on West Ham’s new manager, Julen Lopetegui, after yet another disappointing performance.
Postecoglou praised his team’s second-half display, stating, “It was outstanding from the lads — good energy, good goals, good football. That’s what you want to generate at home. The crowd played their part.”
The match began with Spurs controlling the play, but West Ham created early chances, including a dangerous run from Jarrod Bowen that required a sharp save from Tottenham’s goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario. However, it was West Ham who opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Kudus capitalized on a deflected shot from Bowen.

Spurs responded in the 36th minute after a quick counter-attack led by James Maddison, whose pass found Kulusevski. The Swedish winger’s shot ricocheted off both posts before crossing the line, leveling the match.
In a surprising tactical switch, Postecoglou replaced Maddison with Pape Sarr at half-time, a decision that paid off quickly. Bissouma scored the first of three quick goals in the 52nd minute after a clever cut-back from Destiny Udogie. Barely three minutes later, an own goal from Areola extended Spurs’ lead to 3-1, capitalizing on more pressure from Son.
Son then added his name to the score sheet in the 60th minute, finding the net after a breakaway initiated by Sarr. He nearly scored again shortly after, hitting the post as Tottenham threatened to run rampant.
As the match wound down, West Ham’s day worsened when Kudus received a straight red card after a VAR review for a foul during a late confrontation. The defeat leaves West Ham with just two wins from their first eight matches of the season, while Tottenham looks to build on this momentum as they aim for a stronger showing in the league.
