Super Eagles depart for Libya for AFCON qualifiers return leg (Video)

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have embarked on their journey to Libya for the return leg of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Mediterranean Knights, scheduled for Tuesday. A video posted on the team’s social media channels captured the players boarding their bus from the hotel to the airport, marking the start of their travel to the North African nation.

In the first leg of the encounter, which took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Eagles secured a narrow victory. Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru emerged as the hero of the match, scoring the only goal in the 86th minute. Dele-Bashiru, who replaced Alex Iwobi in the 74th minute, expertly connected with a low cross from Moses Simon to break the deadlock after the Libyan defence had held strong for much of the match.

The Libyan team displayed a resilient performance, often retreating to their half and employing various tactics, including time-wasting, to disrupt Nigeria’s rhythm. However, the Eagles’ persistence paid off, enabling them to claim all three points.

As it stands, Nigeria leads Group D with seven points from three matches, closely followed by Benin Republic with six points. Rwanda and Libya are trailing with two and one point, respectively. The Super Eagles will be keen to maintain their momentum in the return leg, aiming for a victory that will strengthen their position in the group and enhance their chances of qualifying for the AFCON tournament.

With their sights set on a successful outing in Libya, the Super Eagles are poised to continue their strong performance in the qualifiers. The match at Benina Martyrs Stadium will be crucial as they look to secure their spot in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
