Tinubu vows to tackle insecurity, introduces economic reforms to ease hardship
In a speech commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to intensify efforts against insecurity, launching a dedicated campaign to eradicate terrorism and banditry.
He also recognized the challenges posed by rising living costs and unemployment, affirming his administration’s commitment to enacting reforms to alleviate economic hardship for citizens.
“On the security front, I am happy to announce to you, my compatriots, that our administration is winning the war on terror and banditry,” President Tinubu stated, revealing that over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been eliminated in recent operations.
He noted that restoring peace to troubled communities in the North is vital for enabling farmers to return to their lands, thereby boosting food production and reducing costs.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence, he stated, “Our founding fathers chose democracy, a beacon of hope for the rest of Africa and the world.”
He called for a renewed commitment to nation-building, stressing that the country must not dwell on past mistakes but instead focus on the path to a brighter future.
Tinubu addressed the pressing issue of high living costs, asserting, “We are implementing many measures to reduce the cost of living here at home.”
He highlighted ongoing agricultural initiatives, commending state governors for their collaboration and announcing the establishment of a local assembly plant for farm equipment to enhance agricultural productivity.
The President also announced plans for a National Youth Conference designed to empower the youth, who make up over 60% of the population.
“This conference will be a platform to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting our young people,” he said, ensuring that their voices will influence government policies.
