Why Nigeria Customs cancelled 2024 promotion exam – NPRO Maiwada
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has clarified why the 2024 Computer Based Test (CBT) promotion examination to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) held on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, was cancelled.
Notification of the cancellation signed by GA Itotoh, DCG HRD, which was exclusively obtained by Neptune Prime on Wednesday, said investigation uncovered significant technical and administrative challenges that compromised the reliability of the exercise.
But a source who craved anonymity revealed to Neptune Prime that “many officers from a certain part of the country failed the exam, hence the cancellation.”
However, debunking the allegations in a statement sent to Neptune Prime, the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, CSC Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, said the exam was written across different ranks but the one written for the ranks of superintendent to chief superintendent was marred by irregularities, which is why the management cancelled the process, he tagged the allegations as malicious and the work of mischief makers.
He said, “The rank of the chief superintendent was complicated and marred by irregularities, the reason why management decided to cancel the exercise for officers to write in two locations: Lagos and Abuja.
“For anyone to allege that the decision is to favour any region is false information by malicious people seeking to discredit the process. The process is transparent. It’s a CBT exam whereby candidates receive scores immediately after submission, and the database can not be manipulated.
“The process is credible, there are officers from the south, east and other regions serving in the north, similarly, there are officers from the east and north serving in Lagos, the allegations of favouritism is not correct as the Customs Service is out for a credible process and will continue to sustain credibility in its promotion examination,” he said.
Furthermore, the statement by Itotoh confirmed that the decision to cancel the examination was made after a thorough review and investigation of the examination process, which uncovered significant technical and administrative challenges that compromised the reliability of the exercise.
The statement read, “In line with the NCS Management’s commitment to maintaining integrity in its promotion processes, another CBT has been scheduled for eligible officers vying for the rank of CSC.
“The examination is tentatively set for 8 November 2024 and will be held in Abuja and Lagos.
“Eligible candidates will be divided into two groups: a. Cluster A: Officers serving at the HQ (Abuja), Zone B, and Zone D will take their exam in Abuja. b. Cluster B: Officers serving in Zone A and Zone C will take their exam in Lagos.
“A detailed schedule of activity will be published in due course. Ensure wide circulation, please,” the statement said.
