Yobe gov’t honours SEMA rescue team for efforts during Maiduguri flood disaster (pictures)

The Yobe State Government has recognised the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) rescue team for their outstanding support in the Maiduguri flood rescue mission.

Dr. Mairo A. Amshi, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, presented certificates of commendation to the team.

 

Dr. Amshi praised the team’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to rescuing and saving lives during the devastating flood.

“As a mother, when I saw the flood in Maiduguri, I first prayed for Allah’s intervention to ease the situation for all,” she said.

She also acknowledged the team’s commitment and challenged them to continue their good work, adhering to humanitarian principles.

The SEMA team, including drivers of buses, ambulances, and boats were honoured during the meeting.

The Executive Secretary of YOSEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje, thanked the state government and the commissioner, noting that the recognition would significantly boost the team’s morale.

He assured continued collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to deliver key objectives.

Neptune Prime reported that the Maiduguri flood devastated many communities, affecting over 239,000 people.

Over 30 deaths were recorded with many injured persons and severe infrastructure damage.

The flood has also hindered access to essential services such as hospitals, schools, and markets.
