Air Force strikes terrorists during north’s electricity restoration efforts

Troops from the Nigerian Air Force have killed scores of terrorists operating near the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

The terrorists, who were allegedly planning to attack critical facilities and harm electricity workers, were neutralized on Friday when Air Force fighter jets launched airstrikes in the area. The operation was part of efforts to protect workers repairing the vital power line.

Seventeen northern states were plunged into darkness for over a week following the destruction of key electricity towers supplying power to the region by terrorists.

In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the National Security Adviser, Minister of Defence, and Service Chiefs to deploy troops to protect electricity workers as they repaired the damaged infrastructure.

Providing an update on Monday night, Nigerian Air Force spokesperson, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, confirmed that intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions had identified terrorist groups in the area, converging to disrupt the repair efforts.

He revealed that the terrorists were engaged in airstrikes, with several neutralized during the operation.
