Senior citizens protest at Finance Ministry over unpaid pensions

Federal government pensioners, led by Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, National Chairman of the National Union of Contributory Pensioners, staged a protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance over unpaid pension entitlements.

The retirees, who are from the old pension scheme prior to the 2004 introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme, gathered to demand the immediate payment of their accrued pension rights.

Accrued rights refer to pension benefits owed to retirees who retired before the Contributory Pension Scheme was implemented. These funds are supposed to be transferred to Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) to allow retirees access to their pensions.

Comrade Nwaiwu, speaking on behalf of the protesters, stated that many of his members, who retired as far back as 2003, have yet to receive their owed pension contributions. This delay has hindered their ability to access their pension savings through the Pension Administration System (PASS).

The protesters are calling for the federal government to act quickly and release the unpaid accrued rights, ensuring retirees can receive their due benefits. Further updates are awaited.
